FANTASY: New Stitches

As promised, here are the graphic patterns for the Blanket “Sand and Sea”, the boy version of the Fantasy Blanket:

For this version of the Fantasy blanket, I used a combination of the following three stitch patterns:

Para esta versión de la manta Fantasía, utilicé una combinación de los siguientes tres patrones: 

1. DC + granny

This is basically a granny line between rows of all Dc stitches.

Este patrón usa sólo puntos altos, y la hilera al medio es estilo “granny”, con grupos de 3 puntos altos juntos.

2. Waves B

This is a variation of the wave pattern I used in the original Fantasy blanket (Waves A).

Esta es una variación del patrón de ondas que utilicé en la manta Fantasía original (Waves A).

3. Shells

This last stitch pattern is the same as the original, but I am sharing the chart again to have all the patterns for the “Sand & Sea” blanket all in one post.

Este último patrón es el mismo que el original.

To make this blanket, you need to follow the instructions of the original Fantasy Blanket, but use these new stitch patterns instead.

Para tejer esta manta, deben seguir las instrucciones de la Fantasía original, pero utilizando estos nuevos patrones de puntadas.

This is a modified Fantasy Blanket, and here is a preview…

Esta es una variación una Manta Fantasía, y aquí les doy un anticipo… 

Last year, I designed the Fantasy Blanket.  Given that it has some “flowers”, I feel it is more appropriate for a girl; but now I decided to make a “boy version”.  I am changing the design a bit; therefore, I am planning on sharing the modified stitch patterns when I finish it (hopefully at the end of the month).  I chose a baby yarn in colors that remind me of the ocean.  If you want to see the progress, check it out in Instagram @lanasdeana.

El año pasado diseñé la MantaFantasía.  Dado que tiene diseños florales, siento que es más apropiada para una niña; pero ahora decidí hacer una “versión para niño”. Estoy cambiando un poco el diseño; por lo tanto, estoy planeando compartir las puntadas modificadas al final.   Voy a usar lana para bebé, en colores que me recuerdan al mar.  Estaré mostrando el progreso en Instagram@lanasdeana. 

Fantasy Blanket: the Reveal

This is the official reveal of my Fantasy Blanket (in full view), as well as two others, made by my mom and aunt.  I just love that each one is unique and has its own “personality”, but in essence it is the same Fantasy blanket...

Esta es la presentación oficial de mi Manta Fantasía (en vista completa), al igual que otras dos, tejidas por mi madre y mi tía.  Me encanta que cada una tiene su propia personalidad, pero en esencia son la misma “Manta Fantasía”...

a. Fantasy by Ana BC 

Made with medium yarn, in 12 colors.  Small (baby size).

b. Fantasy by Beatriz 

My mom changed the order of the sections, and made the First Section (Stripes) with a "granny" center.  

Mi mamá cambió el orden de las secciones, y el centro de las Franjas la hizo al estilo "granny". 

Color inspiration:  a flannel receiving blanket. 

Inspiración para el colorido: una manta de franela.

c. Fantasy by Chichi

My aunt added an extra stitch pattern: alternating Dc and sc (and the opposite in the next row.

Mi tía añadió otra puntada, que alterna un Punto alto y un punto bajo (y lo opuesto en la siguiente hilera). 

She made a lacier border. 

También hizo un borde diferente, más calado.

Fantasy Blanket: The Border (VIII)

Part VIII

(Crochet * Stash-buster)

Now is time to make the border for the Fantasy Blanket…

Ya llegó el momento para tejer el borde de la Manta Fantasía… 

I went for a simple border in one color (white in mine), given that the blanket itself is very busy and colorful. 

Escogí un borde simple en un solo color, dado que la manta es muy colorida y con una variedad de puntadas. 

Before you start making the border, check if you need to block the blanket first (instructions for blocking @ Knit Simple).  The changes in stitches make the side borders a little uneven. I crochet a little loosely, so I did not need to block it, but my mom did (photos below).

Antes de comenzar a tejer el borde, consideren si la manta necesita ser planchada (bloqueada).  Los cambios de puntadas hacen que los bordes laterales queden un poco irregulares.  Yo tejo un poco flojo, así que no necesité planchar mi manta, pero mi madre si lo hizo con la suya (ver foto). 

Now we are ready to start the BORDER… As I mentioned, the border is very simple, using the granny stripes st. But sometimes, the tricky part with a blanket is the foundation row…

Ahora sí estamos listos para comenzar el BORDE…Como les mencioné, el borde es muy simple, usando la puntada de la abuelita.  Pero, a veces, la parte difícil de un borde es la pasada inicial (buscar instrucciones en español hasta abajo…)

Foundation row:

I suggest you start with a pattern of: *sc+chain3* all around. 

a. [On the upper and bottom part] Make 1sc in the right upper corner.  *Chain 3, skip 2st, and make the next sc on the 3^rd st.* (repeat from * to *). When you reach the corner, make chain 3 and sc on the same spot…and follow the instructions for the following instructions for the side border…

b. [For the side borders] Make 1sc over a dc st.  Make chain 3.  Skip the next dc, and make the next sc over the next dc. Repeat the *sc+chain3* in the same fashion, until you reach the next corner, and chain 3 and sc on the same spot .

Make the next side as a, and the next side as b.  Close with a slip st.

Granny Stripes:

Now you have the foundation row all around.  All you need to do is to finish the border with granny stripes all around, with *3 Dc in each 3-ch space*.  Do not forget to make 2 clusters in every corner: 3Dc + chain 2 + 3Dc. 

Make 3 rows of granny stripes, and you will be ready for the final row…

Final row:

1 sc between the next 3-Dc cluster, *Chain 3, and make 2 Dc tog (on the side of the sc) + 1sc in next space between granny clusters.* Repeat this all around, close with slip st, and cast off. 

Weave in all ends, and you will be ready to use your Fantasy Blanket…

BORDE (en español)

La hilera inicial del borde la hice siguiendo el patrón de: *1 punto bajo + 3 cadenas*. 

a.  En la parte de arriba y abajo… se inicia con 1 pb en la esquina. 3 cad, saltearse 2 p. y hacer 1 pb en el siguiente p.

b. En los bordes laterales… se hace 1 pb en el espacio de 1 Pa + 3 cad, saltearse el siguiente Pa del borde, y hacer el siguiente pb en el siguiente Pa. [ver el esquema en las fotos].

El cuerpo principal del borde consiste en tres hileras con “la puntada de la abuelita” (Granny stripes).

*3 Pa en cada espacio de 3-cad.* 

En las esquinas se hace lo siguiente: *3 Pa + 2 cad + 3 Pa*.

Para la hilera final se sigue el siguiente patrón:

Se inicia con 1 pb en cualquier espacio entre los tres grannys.  *3 cad. + 2 Pa juntos (al costado del pb) + 1 pb en el siguiente espacio entre grannys* repetir alrededor.

Fantasy Blanket: Construction (VII)

Part VII

(Crochet * Stash-buster)

Now that we have learned all the stitches for the Fantasy Blanket, it is time to repeat them all from the beginning…

Ahora que ya aprendimos todas las puntadas para la Manta Fantasía, es hora de repetirlas todas desde el principio… 

If you are making a baby blanket (like mine), you should be close to reaching the middle of the length of the blanket. [FYI: In total, my blanket measures aprox. 78 x 94 cms / 31” x 37” without the border.]  And now, just follow this sequence of stitch patterns to complete the blanket...

Si están haciendo una manta para bebé (como la mía), deben estar a punto de alcanzar la mitad del largo de la manta.  [En total, mi manta mide 78 x 94 cms, sin contar el borde].  Simplemente sigan la siguiente secuencia de puntadas:

Take note that the first and the second sections (Stripes + Flowers) are repeated at the end, as a kind of frame.

Tomen nota que la primera y la segunda secuencia (Franjas + Flores) se repiten también al final, para darle un marco. 

[Note: When I made my blanket, I skipped the first row--the Stripes--in the 2^nd repeat.  At the end, I had to add an extra row of granny stripes to reach the desired length.  If I had to do it all over, I would follow the sequence of the chart.]

[Aclaración: cuando tejí mi manta, no repetí la primera sección.  Al final, tuve que añadir una sección extra de granny stripes para alcanzar el largo deseado.  Si la hiciera de nuevo, seguiría la secuencia de la gráfica.]

If you are making a bigger blanket, just repeat the sequence more times.  I suggest you take measurements right now, and calculate how long you would like it to be, so you can plan to repeat the stitch sequence as many times as you need.  You can also break the sequence and repeat the different sections in any order you fancy…until you reach the desired length. 

Si están haciendo una manta más grande, simplemente repitan la secuencia tantas veces como sean necesarias, hasta que alcancen el largo deseado.  También pueden cambiar la secuencia y hacer las diferentes secciones en el orden que prefieran. 

This is another sample of a Fantasy blanket, made in a different sequence…and it looks great as well.

Esta es una muestra de la Manta Fantasía hecha en un orden diferente…y también queda bonita.

I suggest you change the color combinations when repeating the stitches—for a different look.  But you can always make them the same way too—your choice! 

Les sugiero que cuando repitan las puntadas, cambien las combinaciones de colores para darles una vista diferente.

Fantasy Blanket: Shells (VI)

Part VI

(Crochet * Stash-buster)

This last section is formed by alternating 5 Dc-shells.

Here is the graphic stitch pattern:

For this section of Shells, you will need three colors:  Color A & B (for the shells) and Color C (for the sc rows that frame the shells)

1.  (Color C) All sc

2.  (Color A) Start with sc1, then skip 2 sts., and form a 5-Dc shell in the next st.  *Skip 2 sts., 1 sc in next st. Skip 2 sts., and form a shell with 5 Dc in the next st.* (repeat from * to *, until the last 2 sts). 2 sc.

3. (Color B) Chain 3 in first st. (counts as first Dc). 3 Dc in next st. (Counts as half-shell). *1 sc (in middle Dc of shell below); 1 shell (5 Dc in sc below)* Repeat, and finish with half-shell (3 Dc in last st).

4. Repeat row 2.

5. Repeat row 3.

6. (Color C) All sc.

How do you like it so far?  Next time, I will share some tips on the construction of the blanket, so that you can finish it using the stitches we have learned so far… 

Para la sección de Conchas, se necesitan tres colores: Color A & B para las conchas, y Color C para las hileras de puntos bajos.

1.  Todos puntos bajos.

2. 1 punto bajo, saltear 2 p, y en el siguiente p. hacer una concha con 5 puntos altos.  *Saltear 2p, 1 pb en el siguiente. Saltear 2 p, hacer una concha de 5 Pa en el siguiente* Repetir, y terminar la hilera con 2 pb.

3. Comenzar con 3 cad. (cuenta como primer Pa). 3 Pa en el siguiente p. (cuenta como media concha). *1 pb (en el Pa de la concha de abajo); 1 concha (5 Pa sobre el pb de la hilera anterior)* Repetir, y hacer una media concha en el p.final.

4. Repetir hilera 2

5. Repetir hilera 3.

6. Todos puntos bajos (en Color C).

Fantasy Blanket: Wave (V)

Part V

(Crochet * Stash-buster)

The fifth section of the Fantasy Blanket has a wave effect in the center, which is made by alternating double (Dc) and simple crochet (sc) stitches. 

La quinta sección de la Manta Fantasía tiene un efecto de onda u ola, que se logra al alternar puntos altos y bajos. 

Take note that this wave section is preceded and followed by a zigzag row, which serves as a frame. 

Noten que esta sección la antecede y la sigue una sección de zigzag, sirviendo como marco.

The Wave section is made with three colors:  Color A (for the background), Color B (for the wave in the center), Color C (for the sc rows that highlight the wave).

1. (Color A) All Dc

2. (Color A) Chain 3 (counts as first Dc), then make 3 more Dcs.  *4sc + 4Dc*, repeat until the end.

Note: This is the only section that does not follow the multiple of 3 +2, because the waves are made in a rhythm of 4 stitches (4 Dc + 4 sc). If the number of stitches you are working with is not a multiple of 4, divide the “floating stitches” in 2 and add them at the beginning and end. 

Example of calculations:

104 st./4=26 waves

110 st./4=27 waves + 2st [with the floating 2sts, you need to make the first and last waves with 5 sts]

122 st./4=30 waves +2st

152 st./4=38 waves

If you don´t like math…Send me your number of stitches, and I will gladly make the calculations for you.

3. (Color C) All sc.
4. (Color B) You need to work this row exactly the opposite of row 2. Make a sc instead of a Dc, and make a Dc instead of an sc.
5. (Color B) Make each stitch exactly as you see it below in row 4. Dc over a Dc, and sc over a sc.

6. (Color C) All sc.

7. (Color A) Repeat row 2, exactly the same.
8. (Color A) All Dc.

[Note: Now remember to repeat the mini-zigzag after finishing the wave pattern]

Instrucciones (en español)

La sección de Ondas se hace con tres colores: Color A (para el fondo), Color B (para la onda central), Color C (para las hileras de medio punto que resaltan las ondas).

1.  (Color A) Todos puntos altos

2.  (Color A) 3 cadenas (cuenta como el primer Pa), luego hacer 3 Pa.  *4 pb + 4Pa* repetir hasta el final.

[Nota: Esta sección es la única que no sigue la regla del múltiplo de 3.  Las ondas se hacen en ritmo de 4 puntos (4 altos + 4 bajos).  Si el número de puntadas con las que están trabajando no son múltiplos de 4, asegúrense de repartir los puntos sobrantes y añadirlos al principio y al final. 

3.  (Color C) Todos pb.

4. (Color B) Esta pasada se hace en forma opuesta que el # 2. Se hsce un pb donde había un Pa, y se hace un Pa donde había un pb.

5. (Color B) Repetir la hilera 4, tal como se ve (Pa donde hay Pa, y pb donde hay pb).

6. (color C) Todos pb.

7. (Color A) Repetir la hilera 2. 

8. (Color A) Todos Pa.
