Knit Poncho

At the end of last year I decided to make a knit poncho…

Al final del año tejí este poncho en dos agujas…

It is knit from the top down, with double increase on the front and back (every other row).

Está tejido del cuello para abajo, con aumentos al frente y atrás. 

I used different shades of neutrals, all in worsted weight--all from bits and pieces from my stash.

Utilice lana mediana en diferentes tonos neutrales--todo con sobras de lanas.

At first I was making the border in garter, but I changed my mind and decided on a a 3x3 rib st.

Al principio pensé en hacer la orilla final en punto derecho y revés, pero luego cambié de opinión e hice el borde en resorte 3x3.

I loved the final result.  I will surely make a second one soon…

Coral Be Simple

Un chal veraniego…

The pattern for this shawl is called “Be Simple”.  It truly is simple, made all with knit st (garter), and the increases follow a simple rhythm too.  And the pattern is free in Ravelry: Be Simple Shawl.

I used a mix of cottons in cream, coral and grey.  For a degrade look, I added cotton thread.  I made it on the small side, so it could be better describes as a shawlette…just perfect for summer, or even as a scarf for fall.

El patrón de este chal se chal se llama “Be Simple” (Ser Simple).  En realidad es simple, hecho todo con punto derecho, y los aumentos siguen también un ritmo simple.  Pueden encontrar el patrón gratuito en Ravelry (en inglés): Be Simple Shawl. 

Usé varios tipos de algodón en colores crema, coral y gris.  Para darle una apariencia degradé, le añadí hilos finos de algodón.  Lo hice de tamaño pequeño, que resulta perfecto para el verano o aun como una bufanda para el otoño.

Josephine in Grey

Este chal recibe el nombre de “Josephine”…

The Josephine Shawl is very similar to the “Diving-In” shawl, but it grows deeper, which means that it cover the back better (but it can be a little too big to use as a scarf, which I do with the Diving). I just LOVE the diagonal stripes!!! For this one, I combined angora and worsted yarn, all from my stash.

I am already planning the next one in blues…

El Chal Josephine es muy similar al “Diving-in”, pero es más profundo y cubre más la espalda (aunque puede ser un poco grande para ser usado como bufanda).  Este lo hice combinando lanas de angora y lanas medianas (con sobras). 

Ya tengo planes de hacer otro en tonos azules…

Dark Grey Poncho

A granny poncho in dark grey…

Un poncho granny en color gris oscuro…

I recently made a granny poncho to match my new grey boots.  I love the multicolored granny ponchos, but this time I wanted something more classic and simple.  This one is basically all dark grey, with a detail in black (all sc) and medium gray (1sc+ch2).  On the neck part, I made three rows of rib (2 front post sts + 2 back post sts). 

Recientemente tejí un poncho granny para combinar con mis botas grises.  Me gustan mucho los ponchos multicolores, pero en esta ocasión quería algo más simple y clásico. Esté básicamente está tejido todo con una lana gris oscuro, sólo con unos detalles al borde en negro y gris mediano.  El cuello lo hice en resorte.

DROPS PONCHO

I discovered a lovely poncho in Pinterest, and I knew I had to try it.  The pattern is called:  “First Blush Poncho” and it is available @ Drops Design…

Descubrí el patrón de un lindo poncho en Pinterest, y decidí probarlo. Se llama “First Blush Poncho” y está disponible @ Drops Design (también en español).

The pattern calls for two Drops yarns (Vivaldi and Paris).  They are not available where I live, so I thought I would try to make it with something from my yarn stash.  I chose a blue alpaca yarn I’ve had for ages, and combine it with grey mohair.  The poncho is made in two separate wide stripes, which are later joined at the ends.  It is so light, yet warm…and I love it!  This poncho will go to a friend, so I am thinking I need to make one for myself…

El patrón sugiere la combinación de dos lanas de la línea Drops.  Pero dado que no las puedo conseguir donde vivo, decidí usar unas que tenía: una alpaca azul y una angora gris.  El poncho se consiste en dos tiras que se tejen por separado, y luego se cosen por los extremos.  Es un poncho muy liviano, pero abrigador, y estoy encantada con el resultado. Este poncho se lo di a una amiga, así que tendré que hacer otro para mí…

Diving with Red

One of my favorite shawls is the “Diving In”.  I love its diagonal stripes and its versatility.  Because of its structure, it can be used both as a shawlette or as a long triangle scarf.  My mom and I have made a few already (In Love with a New Shawl; Mom’sDiving Shawl; Blue Diving), and now we decided to make another one in shades of grey, cream and a splash of red…

Uno de mis chales favoritos es el “Diving In”.  Realmente me gustan sus líneas diagonales y su versatilidad.  Debido a su estructura, puede usarse como un chal pequeño o como una bufanda triangular.  Mi mamá y yo ya hemos tejido varios (In Love with a New Shawl; Mom’s Diving Shawl; Blue Diving), y ahora hicimos uno más en tonos gris, rojo y crema…

My mom made this Diving shawl with Merino wool, and I made mine with Angora/Mohair and a variety of medium yarns I had in my stash.  l am sure this is a pattern I will make once and again.

Lots of Blue, a good amount of red, all balanced with white, and a bit of grey—

these are the colors of my new cotton shawl…

Azul, blanco, rojo y un poco de gris…éstos son los colores de mi nuevo chal tejido en algodón...

I made this knit shawl by combining two strands of cotton (one DK weight and one thread).  Mostly I used the same color together (blue with blue, white, with white, etc.); but I also I combined two colors to make an ombre effect.  It was like painting with yarn.  The diagonal effect is made by increasing on just one side.  The pattern in found in Ravelry: Josephine. 

The model is my sweet aunt, who happened to visit while I was taking some pictures. Such a happy coincidence that she was wearing red and white!

Este chal lo tejí combinando un algodón liviano y un hilo fino.  En la mayor parte, combine hilos del mismo color, pero también mezclé colores para dar un efecto sombreado.  Estuve jugando con los colores, y eso hizo que fuera muy divertido tejer este chal.  El efecto diagonal resulta por hacer incrementos sólo en un lado. El patrón se encuentra en Ravelry: Josephine.

La modelo es mi tía, quien pasó a visitar en el momento preciso en que estaba tomando unas fotos, y casualmente iba vestida de rojo y blanco.

Time to Knit: 2 WIPs

After an overload of crochet (finishing my huge crochet tablecloth), now it is time to pick up my knitting needles.  Here are two projects I am working on:

Luego de una sobredosis de ganchillo (con mi mantel enorme), estoy lista para trabajar en dos agujas.  Estos son dos proyectos en progreso…  

  

a. Cotton Shawl: with mixed stripes in blue, white, red, and grey.  I am happily experimenting with a new pattern (Josephine Shawl, found in Ravelry).  Thanks for the tip, Carmen ;-)

a.  Chal de algodón: con franjas mixtas en colores: azul, blanco, gris y rojo. Estoy probando un nuevo patrón (Chal Josefina), gracias a la referencia de Carmen, de Café & Puntadas. ¡Muchas gracias, amiga!

b. And here is the beginning of a Cotton Top.  It will be a new version of the top I made for my sister: Cotton Experiment.  I am making this one in different shades of green.  But this time I am making a kind of an experiment…I started the top part in crochet, and decided to knit the rest. 

b.  Y este es el comienzo de una blusa en algodón.  Es una nueva versión de la blusa que le hice a mi hermana: Experimento en Algodón.  Ahora estoy usando varios tonos verdes.  Pero en esta ocasión lo haré con una variación: la parte de arriba es en ganchillo, y el resto lo haré en dos agujas.   

Blue Diving

A month ago I told you about a shawl I fell in love with: The Diving In, by Mam’zelle Flo.  Later, I also showed you one that my mom made.  Well, I did it again!...

Hace un mes les conté de un chal delcual me enamoré: El Diving In, de Mam’zelle Flo.  Luego les mostré la versión que tejió mimamá.  Bueno, resulta que lo volví a tejer…

This time I used a lovely cotton mixed with silk; I had bought a few skeins on one of my travels, but was waiting to find an adequate pattern for it…and I did.  I mixed it up with other soft cottons I had.  This shawl is on the small side, but I think is perfect for the warm summer evenings (or it could be worn as a scarf in the winter...double duty!)  I love it!

En esta ocasión utilicé un bello algodón mezclado con seda, el cual lo compré en uno de mis viajes.  Lo mezclé con otros algodones suaves para darle el efecto de líneas.  Este chal es pequeño, pero creo que es perfecto para las noches de verano (o podría ser usado como bufanda para el invierno).  Sigo enamorada de este chal…
