One last Stash project

I just started the last stash-busting project for the year: a knit baby blanket. 

Acabo de comenzar el último proyecto del año con lanas acumuladas: una manta para bebé. 

It will be knit all in garter stitch, using 5.5 mm circular knitting needles, and medium yarn. 

La tejeré con dos agujas, usando sólo puntadas derechas, con agujas circulares de 5.5 mm, y lana mediana. 

I chose colors for a baby boy.

Escogí colores para niño.

Stash Up-Down Infinity

Up-Down Infinityscarf in purple tones.

Bufanda Infinito Arriba-abajo en tonos morados. 

After finishing my Peaceful Hexagon blanket, I was left with lots of purple yarn.  So I felt inspired to make an Up-DownInfinity scarf.

Luego de terminar mi manta dehexágonos, me quedé con mucha lana de tonos morados.  Esto me inspiró a tejer una bufanda infinita.

This scarf is knit in the round.  Some colors are all knit, and others all purl, alternately (therefore the name “up and down). Each color has 6 rows.  To the five shades of purple, I added a bright fuscia for a pop of color, and also cream and grey for contrast.

Esta bufanda se teje en redondo.  Algunos colores se tejen al derecho, y se alternan con otros colores tejidos al revés. Para cada color se tejen 6 hileras.  A los 5 tomos morados les añadí un fucsia para darle intensidad, y crema y gris como contraste.

I made the garter tab in a light purple, with grey buttons.

La cinta con botones la tejí en color morado claro, con botones grises.

Blanket Finale: Peaceful Hexagon

I finally finished the Peaceful Hexagon blanket!!!  I started it last year, and have worked on it slowly…and finally it is all done!

Finalmente terminé la Frazada Pacífica. Comencé a tejerla el año pasado, y fui avanzando poco a poco…y finalmente está completa.

It is made with hexagons with a flower center.  I used the motif called “Love at First Sight” (@ Le Monde de Sucrette). 

Está hecha de héxagonos con una flor en el centro.  Utilicé el motif llamado “Amora Primera Vista” (@ Le Monde de Sucrette).

The background is in cream, and all centers of the flowers are beige.  For the two petals of the flowers, I alternated between 3 shades: purples, greens and neutrals. The colors are really soothing, and that is why I called it “Peaceful Hexagon”. I used yarn from my stash, though I confess I did buy an extra few colors to add depth, and of course extra cream for the background and border.  

Todo el fondo es color crema, y los centros son todos en color beige. Para los dos pétalos de las flores, decidí alternar entre tres tonos: morados, verdes y neutrales.  Los colores son suaves y relajantes; por eso la bauticé como “Hexágono Pacífico”.  Utilicé principalmente lanas acumuladas, pero también compré algunas lanas extras para ayudar con el colorido, sobre todo el crema para el fondo y el borde.

In total it is made of 138 hexagons. My blanket grew to be the size of a queen bed, on its surface.  When extended, it covers the whole bed, but I usually leave it at the foot of the bed folded in half.

Está compuesta de 138 hexágonos en total. Es una frazada grande, del tamaño de una cama queen. Cuando está extendida, cubre la cama completa, pero usualmente la dejo al pie de la cama, doblada a la mitad.

I also made a Granny Squares Cushion to match and complement the blanket. 

Hice también un cojín de cuadros de la abuelita para complementar la frazada.   

For the border, I first filled the gaps in the border with cream (check tutorial: Fill the Gap in theHex).  I also filled the zigzag sides, improvising a bit.  For the final border, I made some simple shells.  

Para el borde, rellené los espacios vacíos que dejan los hexágonos (ver tutorial:  Llena los Espacios del Hexágono).  También rellené los espacios zigzag de forma improvisada.   

I love my new blanket…and I am glad I finished it before the year is over.

Me encanta mi nueva frazada…y me alegra haberla terminado antes de que se terminara el año.

Angora Hat and Scarf

Lately I have felt a renewed love for angora yarn.  I think I have never used so much of it in my whole life as I have in the past few months.  I have already shown you some projects I have made so far (Color Change, Hybrid Scarf), and there are more in the works…  But for now, let me show you a hat and a scarf I recently made with a variegated Angora yarn.

Últimamente me ha despertado una pasión por la lana angora.  Creo que no he usado tanta en toda mi vida como lo he hecho en los últimos meses.  Ya les mostré unos proyectos que hice hasta ahora (Color Change, Hybrid Scarf), y aún estoy haciendo otros…Pero por ahora les mostraré una gorra y bufanda que acabo de hacer con angora manchada.

The scarf is a Baktus (pattern in English: Baktus Scarf ).  I love Angora knits to be airy, so I knitted it with an 8 mm needle.

Esta bufanda es un Baktus (Patrón: Baktus en Español ).  Me gusta que el tejido en angora sea liviano y calado, por lo tanto usé unas agujas de 8 mm. 

The hat is knit from the bottom up.  For the rib part I used a medium yarn in a solid color from my stash, and the rest is made in the multicolor Angora…all knit with 6.5 mm circular knitting needles). 

La gorra está tejida de abajo para arriba.  La parte del resorte la hice con una lana mediana en color sólido, y el resto con la angora multicolor…todo tejido con unas agujas circulares de 6.5 mm.

It is a dreamy set, so soft and light.

Es un conjunto de ensueño, tan suave y liviano.

a. An earflap hat for a girl, in pink, light brown and cream

Una gorra con orejeras, en colores variados (rosado, café claro y crema). 

Of course, a hat for a girl calls for a flower.  And here is a photo of the little girl wearing it, and a close-up of the braids.

Por supuesto añadimos una flor a la gorra, porque es para una nena.

b. Stash Hat in Blue tones

Una gorra en tonos azules.

c.  Two Stash Hats: one in Black/White/Grey, and the other one in brown tones.

Dos gorras, una en tonos grises y la otra en tonos café. 

d. Two Slouch hats: one Stash in neutral colors, and the other one all beige.

Dos gorras largas, una con colores neutrales, y la otra sólo en beige.

Color change in the Baktus

(Knit)

One of my favorite ways of knitting a Baktus scarf is by combining two colors (or more).

Una de mis formas favoritas de hacer la bufanda Baktus es combinando dos colores (o más). 

At first, I made the changes of color and the increases all in one side…but it looked a little funky.  Through experience, I discovered that it is better to make the increases and the changes of color in opposite sides.

Al principio, comencé a hacer los cambios de color y los aumentos en el mismo lado…pero el resultado era un poco extraño.  Con la experiencia, descubrí que era mejor hacer los aumentos y los cambios de color en lados opuestos.

In other words: on one side you make the increases, and on the other side you make the change of color. You knit back and forth (2 rows) in color A…then change to color B, and knit back and forth in the second color.

En otras palabras: en un lado se hacen los aumentos, y en el otro lado se realizan los cambios de color.  Se tejen dos hileras en el color A…luego se cambia al color B, y se teje de ida y vuelta en ese otro color.    

Note: The original pattern calls for “yarn over” increases, but I have mostly used the “kfb stitch” (that is, knit front and back), for a more subtle increase. 

Nota: En el patrón original, los aumentos se hacen con lazadas, pero yo prefiero hacerlo tejiendo por delante y por detrás del punto (kfb), para tener un aumento más discreto.   

One of the things I love about the Baktus scarf is that you can use almost any kind of yarn.  Lately I have been using a soft Angora yarn, with big needles (8mm).  I love how soft and light the scarves turned out.  You can barely feel them around the neck, but still keeps you warm. 

Una de las razones por las que amo el Baktus es porque se pueden usar casi cualquier tipo de lana.  Últimamente he usado una suave lana angora, con agujas grandes de 8 mm.  Me encanta cuán suaves y livianas quedan estas bufandas; casi no se siente alrededor del cuello, pero lo mantiene a uno caliente.

The narrow one is made with increases every 4 rows.

Baktus Love

The Baktus is one of my favorite scarves.  It has the shape of an elongated triangle, with narrow tips and a wider center.  It is basically worn as a neckerchief. 

El Baktus es una de mis bufandas favoritas.  Tiene la forma de un triángulo alargado, con las puntas angostas y el centro más ancho. 

I heard the Baktus comes from Norway, where it became very popular some time ago.  The official pattern was written by Solstrikke.  Recently I asked the author for permission to translate it into Spanish, and now it can be found in Ravelry and here in my blog: Baktus en Español.  You can find the English version in Flicker, and a link in Ravelry, where there is a huge gallery of Baktus made with different yarns. 

Me parece que la idea del Baktus proviene de Noruega, donde tuvo mucha popularidad hace unos años. El patrón original fue escrito por Solstrikke.  Hace poco le pedí permiso a la autora para traducir el patrón al español, y me lo autorizó; por lo tanto, ahora podrán encontrarlo en Raverly y aquí en mi blog: Baktus en Español.    

I have made quite a few Baktus scarves so far, and I still keep playing around with them, because they are so versatile.  Now that I have been stash-busting, I have made some using many colors, and even mixing up different kinds of yarns. A la fecha he tejido varias de estas bufandas, y aún sigo jugando con ella porque es tan versátil.  Ahora que he estado usando mis lanas acumuladas, he tejido varias Baktus usando lanas de muchos colores y de diferentes tipos.  La foto de arriba muestra dos que tejí al principio del año.

*  River Baktus

It is made with stash yarns (acrylic and angora), all in green and blue tones, inspired by the yarn Caron Paints (in River). 

Está hecha con diferentes lanas acrílicas y un poco de Angora, todos en azules y verdes.

*  Oceana Baktus

Also knit with stash yarn in colors: lavender, turquoise, blue, inspired by the yarn Caron Paints in Oceana.

Tejida con lana acumulada, en tonos lavanda, turquesa, azul.

* Pink Mix

A combination of a multicolor Angora and acryclic yarn, all in pinkish tones.

Una combinación de Angora multicolor y lana acrílica, todas en tonos rosados.

*  Bright & Blue Baktus

Only DK acrylic yarn (Dora), in four colors: white, green, turquoise, bright blue.  I played with these colors and the row distribution to make it fun.  

Toda con lana acrílica liviana (Dora), en cuatro colores: blanco, turquesa, verde, azul.  Jugué un poco con la distribución de colores para hacerla variada.

*  Stash Baktus

This one was inspired by the Pastels Stash Hat.  The background is in cream, with a touch of light colors: blue, green, pink, grey and beige.

Esta versión está inspirada en la Gorra Stash.  El fondo es crema, y tiene líneas en celeste, verde, rosado gris y beige. 

Lately I have made some in two colors, and I thought of sharing with you some tips…but that will be for next time!
