Baby Blanket Nina

This blanket is specially made for a dear friend who is having a baby girl.  Here I have the pattern instructions...in English and Spanish:

Pattern for Nina Blanket (in English)
K: knit
P: purl
Cable 3x3:  slip 3 sts to cable needle (cn) and hold in front, k3, k3 from cn

This blanket can be adjusted to almost any size you want.  I made it small, as it is designed for a baby.

Cast on (multiple of 8+8)
1-7> all knit (garter st.)
8, 10, 12, 14> 5k *6purl + 2k* [repeat between * and *, until last 5 st] 5k
9, 11, 13> knit
15>  5k * cable 3x3, 2k + 6k* [until last 5 st] 5k
16, 18, 20, 22, 24> 5k *6p + 2k* 5k
17, 19, 21, 23> knit
25>  5k *6k + 2k, cable 3x3, * [until last 5 st] 5k
Repeat rows from 8-25, until you reach desired length
Finish with 6 all knit rows (garter st).

Optional:  I added all around a simple crochet ending, with chain arches, to make it a little more girly.  It was a personal touch, but it is not necessary.

Flower (in corchet)

With two colors: A (for center of flower), and B (for petals)

1> Using color A, make 6 chains.  Slip st into ring.
2> 1 chain, 10 sc in ring, slip st using color B [total: 10 st]
3> with color B, (3 ch + in next sc, 2st dc cluster + 3ch, sl st in next st] x 5 times.
Slip st in the 1 ch of the first petal. Fasten off.

    1. Hello, Sara.
You need to cast on any multiple of 8, plus 8 extra st.
      For example:
      (10 x 8 = 80)
      80 + 8 st. = 88 st.

      or (11 x 8= 88)
      88 + 8 st. = 96 st.

96 st is the size I made, which is on the small side.

For a medium size, you probably need:
      (14 x 8) + 8 = 120 st.

      And large:
      (16 x 8) + 8 = 136 st.

I hope this helps. Sometimes I have a concept in my mind, but it is hard to translate into words.

What size of blanket do you want? I can help you with the numbers if you want ;-)

what size of knitting needles do you use for this? I am not sure if I miss that.

    1. The SIZE OF THE NEEDLES depends on the yarn you will be using. In mine, I used a worsted yarn (medium), and I used 5mm needles (US 8). The beauty of this pattern is that it can be made with a variety of yarns. I suggest you Check the label of your yarn, for it should tell you which needle number you should use. (Look for the crossed needles). Hope this helps ;-)

    1. Querida CLAUDIA:
      Felices tejidos,

Can you clarify row 15 for me? -the part where it says K2 + K6? No purling? Knitting 8 stitches in a row? Thanks!

Yes, it is 8 knit in a row.
I wrote 2+6 because of the rythm of the pattern.
Sorry if it confused you :S

    1. Thanks for your interest, Sheryl. I used 2.5 skeins of Caron Simply Soft in white, which come each with 6 oz / 170 g.
      I hope this helps.

  12. Hello Ana,

Is it possible for you to share the pattern for the border please?

    Thanks!

    1. With pleasure, Tara Mae. I made a "super simple" crochet border. First I made a row of: 1 sc + 1 chain. And for the 2nd row,I crocheted: an sc (in the chain space) and 4 chains... Repeat all around. That simple.
There are two other crochet borders that you could try as well, from the blog: Le Monde de Sucrette.
One is called the Olé. here is the link:
      http://www.lemondedesucrette.com/2011/02/08/ole-ole-blanket-the-border/
and the other is with shells:

      Hope this can be useful.
If you make the blanket, I would love to see a picture.
      Greetings,

This pattern seems to have a few errors. First, it skips 2 stitches in the cable repeats--it'd be the cable, then k10 total (c3x3 + k2 + k6 + k2). And why is there an extra set of rows in the second cable? Shouldn't they be even? (The first set is 8 rows total, the second is 10.) They look even in the picture of the blanket.

I am confused about the count for row 15 as well. Can you explain it? The blanket is beautiful and I'm so anxious to make it!
