Blanket: Granny's Love

Aquí les comparto otro proyecto de una invitada especial…

My aunt made this baby blanket for a baby girl.  As you can see, it is a twist of the classic granny squares and stripes.  It is from a pattern called “Granny’s Love” from the book “Our Best Baby Afghans” by Leisure Arts.  Yarn: Caron Simply Soft. 

This blanket was the main feature of a very special gift for the birth of a baby girl.

Mi tía hizo esta linda manta para una niña.  La base está hecha con hileras de cuadritos de la abuelita (ing. granny squares).  El patrón se encuentra en un libro de ganchillo en inglés: “Our Best Baby Afghans” de Leisure Arts.  Lana acrílica: Caron Simply Soft. 

Esta manta es parte de un regalo muy especial para el nacimiento de una niña.

I am beginning two granny-stripes blankets: one for a boy and one for a girl…

For the Boy version…I am using a fine baby yarn (Super Bebe, Cisne), in four colors: bright blue, light blue, white and light grey.   

For the Girl version…I am using a very nice multicolored merino yarn (Merino Gold, Madame Tricote Paris). I love it because the changes of color are long.  And the best part is that I don´t have to change colors—the yarn does that for me! 

Estoy comenzando dos mantas de bebé: una para niño y otra para niña…

Para la manta de niño…escogí una lana fina (Super Bebe, Cisne), en cuatro colores: azul encendido, celeste, blanco y gris.

Para la manta de niña…estoy usando una linda lana merino multicolor (Merino Gold, Madame Tricote Paris). Es perfecta porque los cambios de color son largos, y la mejor parte de todo es que no tengo que cambiar colores, pues la lana lo hace por mí. 

Infinity in Blues

February is all about love and red hearts…but can’t ignore the color blue, which we love.

Febrero está lleno de amor y corazones rojos…pero no podemos olvidarnos del azul, color que nos gusta tanto.  

I recently knit this infinity scarf in shades of blue, plus a touch of lavender.  The color inspiration came from the variegated yarn I used: Caron Simply Soft in Oceana.  From that I added some solid colors, most of which are Caron as well.  This infinity scarf is knit on the round, alternating siz rows knit and six purl.  Pattern: Up-Down Infinity Scarf.

Recientemente tejí esta bufanda infinita en tonos azules, con un toque de lavanda.  La inspiración para el colorido vino de la lana mixta que utilicé: Caron Simply Soft Paint en Oceana. A partir de esta, fui añadiendo colores sólidos, la mayoría de los cuales también son de Caron. La bufanda está tejida en redondo, alternando seis hileras en derecho, y seis en revés. Patrón: Bufanda Infinito Arriba-Abajo

Aviator Hats

A young mom asked me to make an aviator hat for her baby boy.  There was no pattern, but just a photo, so I had to improvise a bit…

Una madre joven me pidió que le tejiera una gorra estilo aviador para su bebé.  No había patrón, sino sólo una foto, así que tuve que improvisar un poco…

The aviator goggles are also made in crochet.

Los lentes de viador también están hechos en ganchillo. 

I decided to try another style, with a flap instead of goggles…

Decidí hacer otras gorritas similares, pero visera abotonada en lugar de los lentes…

This is an aviator hat, in dark grey, with the flap and border in cream, for a newborn boy.

Esta es una gorra estilo aviador, en color gris, con detalles en crema. Es talla para recién nacido.

I also made some boots to match.

También tejí unas botas a ganchillo que le combinan. 

Then I made a lacy one for a girl.

Luego tejí otra en versión para niña, en blanco con detalles rosado pálido.

All were Improvised; no pattern.

Todos fueron improvisados, sin patrón.

First Mood Blanket

In the beginning of the year, I joined the Challenge: “Crochet Mood Blanket 2014”, started by Stacey from the blog Frofunky. The challenge is to make one granny each day, for a total of 365 in the whole year.  Most of the participants are making one huge blanket, but I decided to make several baby blankets instead; and I will be donating these blankets to a charity organization (Pijamitas con Amor) that helps babies in need. 

Al principio del año me uní al Reto: “Crochet Mood Blanket 2014”, convocado por Stacey del blog Frofunky.  El reto consiste en tejer un cuadrito al día, para terminar con 365 al final del año.  La mayoría de los participantes están tejiendo frazadas enormes, pero yo decidí hacer varias mantas pequeñas para bebé, las cuales estaré donando a una caridad (Pijamitas con Amor) que ayuda a recién nacidos necesitados. 

My progress so far is: 42 squares.  This means I have finished my first blanket.

Hoy alcancé la marca de 42 cuadritos de la abuela, que unidos forman la primera manta. 

I joined all squares with white yarn.  I used the “sc joining method” (alternating with a chain, to avoid being too bulky).

Uní los cuadritos con lana blanca, usando el método de unión con punto bajo (alternado con una cadena para evitar que quede muy grueso).

The border is simple as well: granny stripes in white and green, and the final row all sc.

El borde es también simple, en blanco y verde, con una hilera final en punto bajo.

My mom is also making baby blankets for the hospital…with granny squares, both for a boy and  for a girl.

Mi mamá también está tejiendo mantas de bebé para el hospital…con cuadritos granny, tanto para niño como para niña.   

Classic in Black

(Knit)

It is a simple knit hat, all in black.  

Esta es una gorra simple, tejida en dos agujas, con lana negra.

It is a little long, which makes it slouchy. 

 Es un poco larga, y queda bombacha.  

My niece asked me to knit this for her, and I am glad that it did fit her perfectly. 

Mi sobrina me pidió que le tejiera una, y me alegra que quedara tal como quería.  

I made another one, as a gift.  It is exactly the same, but in charcoal black. 

Luego tejí otra, para un regalo.  Son básicamente iguales, pero esta otra es en negro carbón. 

A classic hat.

Crochet for a Good Cause

For the last two years, I have been contributing to a charity organization called “Pishamitas con Amor” (in English, “Little Pijamas with Love”).

Desde hace dos años, he estado contribuyendo con una organización caritativa llamada “Pishamitas con Amor”.

They collect clothing for babies, blankets, diapers, etc. in order to help mothers who have just given birth in the public hospital (@ Guatemala City). 

Ellos recolectan ropita de bebé, mantas, pañales, etc. para ayudar a madres necesitadas que han dado a luz en el hospital público (@ Ciudad de Guatemala). 

To contribute to that good cause, I have been crocheting baby sweaters…

Para contribuir a esa buena causa, he estado tejiendo suéteres para bebé…

This year I will also be making several blankets, as part of the Challenge “Crochet Mood Blanket2014”.  I have almost finished the first one, and I will share it soon.

Este año también estaré tejiendo mantas pequeñas, como parte del Reto “Crochet MoodBlanket 2014”.  Ya casi terminé la primera, y pronto la mostraré.

My mom and aunt are also crocheting for this good cause… My mom made this granny-stripes blanket in blue tones, and my aunt made the following colorful Ripple blanket with a matching hat, and several hats as well.

Mi mamá y mi tía también están tejiendo para esta buena causa…mi mamé tejió esta manta de líneas azules, y mi tía hizo la siguiente manta de ondas coloridas, además de muchas gorras.
