Stash Report: June

Time is flying! We have reached the middle of the year.  But we still have six more months to do some stash-busting...

El tiempo está volando…ya llegamos a medio año.  Pero todavía tenemos seis meses más para usar las lanas acumuladas

This month, I have a SURPRISE for you: Our knit club is working on a “stash-busting” crochet blanket, and I am going to share the “how-to” in the blog.  I am calling it the “FANTASY BLANKET”, because it is made with a variety of stitches and colors.      

Para este mes, les tengo una sorpresa: En nuestro club de tejido estamos haciendo una frazada con lanas acumuladas, y voy a compartir las instrucciones en el blog.  El proyecto lo llamaré “Manta Fantasía”, porque está hecha de una variedad de puntos y colores.

For my Knitting Needles

(Stash-buster)

I just finished making a new container for my knitting needles. 

Acabo de hacer un nuevo contenedor para mis agujas de tejer. 

It is made with a recycled container, bulky yarn and glue.   

Está hecha con una lata grande reciclada, lana gruesa y goma blanca. 

Recycling is so satisfying ...and so is stash-busting!

Es muy satisfactorio reciclar…y también usar las lanas acumuladas.

Blue Lacy Top

(Crochet)

As soon as I finished the Lime Lacy Vest, I started another one…in blue.  I used the same motif, but decided to make a different kind of garment…

Tan pronto terminé el chaleco verdelimón, comencé otro…en color turquesa.  Comencé con el mismo motif, pero decidí hacer otro tipo de pieza…

This time I made a V-neck lacy top, closed in the front.

En esta ocasión, haré un blusón cerrado con cuello en “V”. 

It is made with fine cotton thread, in double strand.

Está hecho con hilo fino de algodón, con doble hebra.

The pattern for the motif was originally designed for a shrug.  But that is the beauty of motifs, because they are so versatile!

WIP: Blue Canvas Blanket

I am so happy because I have made great progress in the Sunburst-like blanket I am making for my niece…

Estoy muy contenta porque he podido avanzar bastante en la frazada que le estoy haciendo a mi sobrina…

I think I am either 10 or 20 motifs away from finishing it.  This weekend I need to take measures and make calculations as to how many more I need.  

Creo que me faltan entre 10 ó 20 motifs para terminarla.  Este fin de semana voy a tomar medidas para calcular cuántos hacen falta. 

Sometimes I like to name my projects, and I am calling this “the Blue Canvas Blanket”.  My niece is an artist, and she chose a navy blue for the background…and this name represents all that.

A veces me gusta ponerle nombre a mis proyectos, y a éste lo llamo “Lienzo Azul”.  Mi sobrina es una artista, y ella escogió el azul marino como fondo…y este nombre me pareció representativo de ello.

The motif is the same I used for the Study Cushion…and I love it.

El motif (aplicación) que estoy usando es el mismo del Cojín del Estudio...y me encanta.

After finishing all the motifs, I will only have to join them and make the border.  I hope to show you the final product soon…

Cuando termine los motifs, sólo me quedará unirlos y hacer el borde.  Espero poder enseñarles el proyecto terminado pronto…

3 Clam Shell Projects

These three projects were made with Cherry Heart’s Clam Shell Pattern (as part of a CAL--crochet-along):

 a. CLAMSHELL TOTE

This is a small tote bag where I can store and carry around my small WIP projects.

Esta es una bolsa para guardar y llevar mis tejidos pequeños. 

I mixed some neutral grey tones with white, and other brighter colours: Lime green, Turquoise, Teal, Burgundy, Orchid pink

Usé tonos neutrales (gris y blanco) en contraste con colores brillantes: verde limón, turquesa, vino, rosado, azul verde. 

I crocheted this project on the round. For the straps, I made a long tubular strip of grey, which is passed through some gaps on the next-to-last row…

Este proyecto está hecho en redondo. Para el cinto, hice una tira tubular en gris, que pasa por los espacios anchos de la penúltima hilera…

This strap is also connected to a wooden ring sewn on the side of the bag (so it can be worn over the shoulders!)

El cinto se conecta con un anillo de madera que está cocido al lado de la bolsa (para usarlo cómodamente sobre el hombro). 

b. CLAMSHELL CASE    

My first try at making the tote came out too small…so instead of unraveling, I decided to turn it into a small case.

Mi primer intento para hacer la bolsa me salió muy pequeño…así que, en lugar de deshacerlo, decidí convertirlo en un estuche. 

I will use it to carry my knit/crochet accessories. 

Le añadí un cierre y forro, y ya está listo para usar…

I added a zipper and lining, and now it is ready to go…

Lo usaré para llevar mis accesorios de tejido.  

c. CLAM BABY BLANKET

My mom used the clamshell pattern to make this cute blanket for a baby girl.

Mi mamá usó el patrón “Clam Shell” para hacer esta linda manta para niña. 

The blanket is super light because it is made with a lovely Alpaca yarn (Alpandina, from Peru). 

La manta es muy liviana ya que está hecha con una linda lana de Alpaca (Alpandina, del Perú)

Colors: Pink, Lavender, Light Blue, Bright Green and White.

Colores: rosado, lavanda, celeste pálido, verde limón, blanco.

 And, how cute is this lacy border!!!

Y ¡qué bello es el borde calado!

This Ripple Blanket is made with the same pattern and similar colors (light blue, beige and white), but in bright shades and a shiny acrylic yarn. 

Esta manta Ripple está hecha con el mismo patrón que la otra, y con colores iguales, pero en diferentes tonos y lana diferente (acrílica satinada). 

It is amazing how two blankets can be the same…and so different at the same time.

Es impresionante como dos mantas pueden ser tan similares, y tan diferentes a la vez.  

For a special touch, my aunt crocheted only in the back loop; and for added texture, she added some slip stitch rows.  

Como un toque especial tejió las puntadas en la parte posterior; y para darle más textura, le añadió unas hileras de punto superficial. 

This blanket is part of a gift set for a baby boy that will be born soon. 

Esta manta es parte de un regalo especial para un bebé que pronto va a nacer. 

The gift comes also with a polka-dot receiving blanket, with a crocheted border…

El regalo va acompañado de una franela de puntos con un borde de ganchillo…

…and a baby blue cardigan, which I knitted (from the pattern in French: Mon Petit Bebe @ Ravelry)

y un cardigan celeste, el cual yo tejí en dos agujas (usando el patrón en francés: Mon Petit Bebe)

Cushion with Sunburst-like Motif

I had left-over yarn from my “Study In Squares” blanket, so I thought of making a flowery cushion with the remaining yarn…

Me quedó lana sobrante de la frazadaque hice para mi estudio, así que pensé hacer un cojín floreado… 

I used the same colours as the blanket: grey, cream, fuscia, vintage pink, green, camel, beige; and for the background: brown.

Utilicé los mismos colores de la frazada: gris, crema, fucsia, rosado antiguo, verde, camello, beige, y todo el fondo en café.

Both sides of the cushion are made with the flower motifs.

Ambos lados del cojín los hice con el motif de las flores. 

I was inspired by the famous “Sunburst motif”, but made a few variations to the original pattern: (a) For the center, instead of using trebles, I made a row of 8 sc, and then a row of 16 Dc.  (b)  Instead of the 5-DC clusters, I made 3 Dc clusters, for the petals.  For those of you who like graphic patterns as much as I do, here it is...

WIP (work in progress): Currently I am making a blanket with this motif, but with a blue background…

Blanket: Alpaca Ripple

My mom made this blanket for a baby boy.

Mi mamá hizo esta manta para un bebé. 

It is a Ripple Blanket made in light Alpaca in three colours: Light Brown, Light Blue and Cream.  

Es una manta zigzag tejida con lana de alpaca en tres colores: Café claro, celeste y crema. 

The rythm is: 6 rows in Light Blue, 2 in Cream, 6 in Light Brown, 2 in Cream, and repeat...  

El ritmo de la manta es 6 hileras en un color, y dos en crema, y se repite...

It is actually a stash-buster project…she had this yarn for a while, and finally found a good use for it. 

Éste se puede considerar como un proyecto de lanas acumuladas, ya que ella tenía esta lana desde hace tiempo, y finalmente encontró un buen uso para ella.

This is the border, also with the 3 colors. Simple, and lovely.

Este es el borde, también con los tres colores.  Simple, y bello.
